What is November safety month? Every year in November, child health and welfare advocates organize resources and spend the month raising awareness about childhood safety. Most of the information shared during Child Safety Protection Month is directed toward infants, toddlers, and school age children.
How do you promote children’s safety?
- Use relevant terms.
- Help children recognize warning signs of suspicious behavior.
- Speak in a more specific sense.
- Teach a child to gain permission prior to approaching an adult they don’t know.
- Let a child know that you would NEVER get someone to pick them up that they do not know.
Why is children’s safety important? Child safety is of upmost importance. So many childhood deaths, injuries, and accidents are preventable. Injury is the #1 killer of children and teens in the United States. In 2009, more than 9,000 youth age 0-19 died from unintentional injuries in the United States.
